AMENITIES AND SERVICES

A Personal Care Package or PCP is the list of amenities and services included in your monthly rent. Where most other facilities charge additional fee's, for even the most minor assistance, Empire Living Centre like all RLC homes adds additional services in your basic monthly rent.

Cable TV

At The Empire not only is the basic cable included in your PCP, we have at your request expanded the service to include the variety pack of channels, at no extra charge. This is a savings of $29.95 per month over all the other facilities.

All residents are provided with a private telephone at nominal cost of $10.00 per month. Residents are of course, responsible for their long distance charges. We are again alone in the industry in providing this service in the PCP. All of the other facilities charge a minimum of $19.95 a month for this service.

Activities

The Empire hires the services of a full time activity coordinator. Her duty is to give you the resident the option of as much, or as little activity as you wish. She will provide you with an activity calendar at the beginning of each month, jammed with things to do. The activity director's services are included in the PCP. As part of her duties, the activity director will arrange outings to areas such as the botanical gardens or a boat trip etc.

Seniors in the North Bay area not resident at the facility are encouraged to join our seniors club, which promotes numerous activities such as our weekly bridge tournaments, monthly supper club, exercise classes to name but a few.

Meals and Snacks

At The Empire we realize mealtime is very important to our residents. We consistently receive acclaim for both quality and presentation that rivals the finer restaurants in North Bay.

All meals and snacks as well as beverages are included in the PCP. Special meals and diets are available at no additional charge. We employ the services of a dietary consultant to ensure the special dietary needs of the active senior are met.

Additional meals for family and friends are available at nominal cost. Please give us notice of additional dinner guests, so that we can make arrangements for their needs. A private dining area is available for special occasions at no additional charge.

We enjoy catering special events such as birthdays, anniversaries or even family get together's, etc.. Please speak to our chef to reserve the private dining room.

Special Needs

During a short term illness residents may require special treatment during mealtimes. This may include having a meal delivered directly to your room until you feel well enough to eat in the dining area. This service will be provided in the PCP at no extra charge, on the basis of a one-week period or less on a non-repetitive basis. If you wish to have a meal delivered to your room on a regular basis, we are happy to do so at the cost of $2.00 a meal, to cover our additional staffing requirements.

Personal laundry is done once a week at the cost of $20.00 a month. Those wishing to do their own laundry can do so free of charge at facilities located on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.

Housekeeping is included in your PCP. The linen is changed, the rooms are dusted and vacuumed and the bathrooms have a thorough cleaning, on a weekly basis.

The Empire retains a full time maintenance staff to maintain the facility and grounds, they are available to assist any resident who need help with a mechanical or facility related problems. This service is included in the PCP.

24-Hour Supervision

We provide 24-hour supervision of the facility. Our call system is activated through the telephone. Dialing 0 will attract assistance 24 hrs a day. This service is included in the PCP.

Assistance with medications is included in the PCP. Our staff is fully trained and has a great deal of experience in senior's related medications and is only too glad to help wherever they can. Our reputation is well known in the nursing community.

Special Care Due to Short Term Illness

We all from time to time succumb to the flu bug or other short-term illness, which involves special care from our nursing staff. This is expected and included as part of the PCP. This includes any illness short term and non repetitive in nature.

Chronic and Special Care

Residents that wish to retain their independence and life style, not available in a nursing home but require a small amount of additional care to remain independent, are welcome at Empire. This may include assistance in dressing and personal hygiene, or additional nursing care. We are happy to provide the needed care, within the limits set by the home. These services are a supplemental cost and will vary with the services required. Our medical liaison will be happy to discuss your situation in detail and provide you with a list of services available as well as there associated cost.

Accreditation

The Government of Ontario is currently in the act of passing legislation to provide accreditation to residential homes such as ours. The accreditation indicates the home meets or exceeds a pre-determined level of care and invokes a bill of rights for the residents.

When this legislation is past into law, we will insure that the Empire is one of the first homes to apply for accreditation.
